Hilton Head Island and Bluffton are within the Beaufort, SC County School District, which has 17 elementary schools, five middle schools and four high schools.
Private schools include Hilton Head Preparatory School and Hilton Head Christian Academy, which educate children from grades 1-12. St. Francis Catholic School includes kindergarten through eighth grade. Heritage Academy accepts students aged 11 through 19. Sea Pines Montessori Academy accepts students from 18 months through eigth grade.

The University of South Carolina / Beaufort offers six baccalaureate degrees, two associate degrees and several graduate degrees. It also serves as a center for lifelong learning for people of all ages throughout the Lowcountry.
Other post-secondary institutions include the Technical College of the Lowcountry, which offers associate degrees, diplomas and professional certificates in various technical and business fields.
